Jamia Masjid

Constructed in 1394 AD by “Sultan Sikandar Shah Kashmiri Shahmiri” is a mosque in Jammu and Kashmir called Jamia Masjid. This masjid is located in a town called Nowhatta in the Srinagar district. Apparently it was Mir Mohammad Hamadani, son of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (a poet and a Muslim scholar) who commissioned the construction of this mosque. Furthermore, this masjid is renowned for its magnificent “Indo-Saracenic” architecture, a beautiful courtyard, and for 370 sturdy wooden pillars.

The ideal time to visit this pious masjid is from April to October when the climate is extremely pleasant with the temperature ranging from maximum of 30 degree Celsius to a minimum of 14 degree Celsius.

The closest station to this masjid is the Jammu Tawi and the Udhampur Railway Station. Both these stations are well connected to major cities in the country.

There is no religious significance or myth attached to this masjid but it certainly possesses a rich cultural heritage. This masjid built during the 14th century represents Islamic art and culture quite exquisitely. In addition, this masjid also is a great representative of traditional Indian architecture. Furthermore, this masjid is renowned for its fountain built in the form of a square located at the entrance. It also consists of four cornered minars, pyramidal roofs, and pinnacles that add to the overall beauty of this beautiful masjid.
