Manjinikkara Dayara

A renowned “Syrian Orthodox Church” known as “Manjanikkara Dayara” is located in the south of Kerala. This “Syrian Church” is located in Pathanamthitta district. This church was constructed by Mor Yulius Elias Qoro. In addition, this church also forms a part of the “Patriarchal Delegate” of the Malankara Church and the “metropolitan” of Simhasana Churches. Furthermore, the bodies of “Patriarchal Delegates” Mor Yulias Elias Qoro and Mor Yulias Yakub can be found buried at this church.

c. Religious Significance of Manjanikkara Dayara Church

It was on 11th February 1932 that the Patriarch Ignatius Elias III arrived at Manjanikkara, It was as soon as he arrived in Manjanikkara that he made his intention clear that he would like to settle here forever. However, the patriarch died at this spot two days later on the 13th of February. The funeral service was then held on the 14th February after which this church was then constructed in honour of Patriarch Ignatius Elias III on a plot land located towards the north of Mor Stephanos Church.
