Nageshvara Jyotirlinga Temple

According to the Shiva Purana, located in the Dwarka district in Gujarat is a “jyotirlinga” temple known as the Nageshvara Jyotirlinga Temple. This temple is one among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines that exist in the country.  It is also considered to be the first jyotirlinga shrine to have been established in the country. a. Best time to visit:

The ideal time to visit this temple is from October to March during the winter as the climate is extremely pleasant with, the temperature ranging from a maximum of 28 degree Celsius to a minimum of 20 degree Celsius.

1. By train:

The closest railway station to this temple is located in the ancient city of Dwarka. The Dwarka Railway Station is well connected to most of the major cities and towns in the country.

2. By road:

There are number of bus services from Dwarka that connect to major cities in the country like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad etc.

3. By air:

The nearest airport to this temple is located in Jamnagar. The Jamnagar Airport is well connected to most major cities in the country. Taxi services from this airport to the temple are available.

c. Religious significance:

“Darukavana” which was a forest that existed in ancient India is where the Nageshvara Jyotirlinga temple is said to have been first established. According to a myth apparently stated in the Shiva Purana an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva called Supriya was attacked and imprisoned by a demon called Daaruka. In response Lord Shiva destroyed this demon and, took the form of a jyotirlinga. It is at this very site where Shiva assumed the jyotirlinga form that this temple was eventually built.
