There is a sacred town called Pushkar in Rajasthan that is considered to be one among the five most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus in the country. This site is also popularly known as “Tirthraj Pushkar” i.e. king of pilgrimage sites. This town is renowned for having a number of temples. a. Best time to visit Pushkar:

The ideal time to visit this “pious” town is in between October and March during which the climate is pleasant with, the temperature ranging from a maximum of 22 degree Celsius to a minimum of 8 degree Celsius.

1. By train:

The nearest station located to Pushkar is in Ajmer. The Ajmer Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country. Taxi services are available from this station to Pushkar.

2. By road:

There are a number of bus services that are available in Pushkar that connect to major cities in the country such as Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, Gurgaon etc.

3. By air:

The closest airport to Pushkar is located in Jaipur. The Sanganer Airport, Jaipur is well connected to major cities in the country such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Indore, Jodhpur, Udaipur etc.

c. Religious significance:

A popular myth states that Lord Brahma chose this town to perform a “Mahayagna” since he found it suitable for the cause. A legend also states that Lord Brahma’s children were killed by a demon called Vajra Nabha. In response Brahma killed this demon with a lotus stalk. As a result of which petals of the lotus flower fell at three spots in this town. It is at these three spots that three lakes arose namely Jyestha Pushkar, Madhyama Pushkar, and Kanishta Pushkar. These three lakes were then assigned their resident deity in accordance with the “Trimurti” i.e. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
