Popular for being the birthplace of renowned spiritual guru “Sri Sathya Sai Baba” Puttaparthi is a town located in Anantpur district in Andhra Pradesh.  This town is located on the banks of the Chitravathi. a. Best time to visit:

The ideal time to visit this small town in Andhra is in between September to March as the climate is extremely pleasant with, the temperature ranging from a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius.

1. By train:

The nearest railway station is located at a distance of about 8 km away from the “Prasanti Nilayam” ashram. The Satya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai etc.

2. By road:

There are a number of bus services from this town that connects to a major city such as Hyderabad.

3. By air:

This town possesses its own domestic airport. This airport known as “Sri Satya Sai Airport” is well connected to major cities such as Mumbai, Chennai etc. Taxi services to the ashram are available from this airport.

c. Religious significance:

The construction of the ashram “Prasanthi Nilayam” was first initiated by Satya Sai Baba in this town on the 23rd November 1950. A popular myth states that Satya Sai Baba once told a devotee that “The Sai Pravesh (the advent of Sai) will transform the region into Prasanthi Pradesh (a region of highest peace). There will rise a bhavan (mansion) and lakhs of people from all over India, why only India, from all over the world, will come and wait there for Sai darshan”.  This ashram apart from being home to the spiritual guru Satya Sai Baba is also home to many temples such as Ganesha temple, Subramanya Temple, Gayatri temple etc. Alternatively, regular darshan of the Satya Sai Baba for devotees was a common feature in this ashram.
