Rudreshwar Mahadev Temple

Considered to be amongst the “oldest Hindu shrines in Uttarakhand” is a temple known as “Rudreshwar Mahadev”. This ancient temple is devoted to Lord Shiva, and is located in the Almora district.  In addition this temple is also situated along the banks of the River Ram Ganga. Furthermore, this temple is renowned for its annual “Mahashivratri fair” which is considered to be the biggest in the Uttranchal region.

The best time to visit this pious village is either from March to June or from September to November when the climate is extremely pleasant.

1. By train:

The Kathgodam Railway Station is the closest station. This station in Kathgodam is well connected to most major cities and towns.

2. By road:

If you intend to drive to this temple then the ideal starting points would be New Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Gurugram, and Dehradun.

  • Via New Delhi:

There are two routes from New Delhi to this temple, and they are via NH9 and via NH309.

  • Via Haridwar:

There are three routes from Haridwar to this temple, and they are via NH734, via NH534, and via NH34.

  • Via Rishikesh:

There are three routes from Rishikesh to this temple, and they are via NH734, via NH34, and via NH7.

  • Via Gurugram:

There is one route from Gurugram to this temple, and they are via NH9.

  • Via Dehradun:

There are three routes from Dehradun to this temple, and they are via NH734, via Ambala-Dehradun-Haridwar Road/Haridwar Road, and via NH309.

3. By air:

The closest airport to this temple is located in Pantnagar at a distance of 150 km. The Pantnagar Airport is well connected to New Delhi via Jagson Airlines, which schedules six flights per week. Taxi services are available to this village from this airport.

c. Religious significance of the Rudraeshwar Mahadev Temple

There is no real religious significance pertaining to this ancient temple apart from the fact that it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and hence has aptly been given the name “Rudreshwar Mahadev”.
