c. Religious significance of the Tapkeshwar Temple
According to a popular folklore associated to the epic Mahabharata one day Dronacharya’s wife Kalyani gave birth to their son Ashwathama. However, unfortunately Kalyani could not feed her child sufficiently well, and Dronacharya could not afford cow’s milk. As a result the intelligent Ashwathama seized control over the situation, and prayed to Lord Shiva so as to appease him and obtain milk. So pleased was Lord Shiva on seeing little Ashwathama’s devotion that he fed him milk using the very same Shivlingam seen in the “Drona Cave” as of today.
