Popularly known as “Banaras or Kashi” Varanasi is a sacred city that is located on the banks of the River Ganga in Uttar Pradesh. This city is considered to be the “Spiritual Capital” of India. It is also one of the cities in the “Sapta Puri” i.e. a group consisting of the seven most holiest cities in the country. Additionally, this city is represented in Parliament by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself after having won by a huge margin from this constituency during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. a. Best time to visit Varanasi:
The ideal season to visit this religious city is in between October and March as the climate is extremely pleasant during this period with, temperature ranging from a maximum of 32 degree Celsius to a minimum of 5 degree Celsius.

1. By train:
This holy city possesses its own railway station. The Varanasi Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.
2. By road:
There are a number of bus services that connect Varanasi to major cities across the country that include Delhi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur etc.
3. By air:
This extremely “pious” city possesses its own airport. The Varanasi Airport is well connected to most of the major cities in the country.
c. Religious significance:
This town which in the “Rigveda” is referred to as Kashi is supposed to have been established by Lord Shiva. A legend states that the Pandavas (heroes of the epic Mahabharat) supposedly visited this city in search of Lord Shiva to seek redemption for having killed their cousins i.e. Kauravas during the battle that occurred in Kurukshetra. This city is also considered to be one among the seven holy cities in the country that can provide salvation or Moksh.
