Yogeshwari Devi Temple

Devoted to Goddess Amba (an incarnation of Parvati) is a temple located in Maharashtra known as Yogeshwari Devi Temple. This “Devi” temple is situated in a town called Ambajogai in the Beed district. In addition, the deity of this temple i.e. Yogeshwari Devi is said to be a goddess mainly worshipped by the “Chitpavan Konkanastha Brahmin Community” with the architecture of this temple being essentially “Hemadpanti” in style. Furthermore, it was at this temple that a saint called Dasopant composed verses of his hymns.

The ideal time to visit this temple is from October to February as the climate is extremely pleasant with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 30 degree Celsius to a minimum of 18 degree Celsius.

1. By train:

The nearest station is located in the city of Parli. The Parli Vajinath Railway Station is well connected to major cities such as Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Nashik etc.

2. By road:

If you intend to drive to this temple then the ideal starting points would be Kolhapur, Mumbai, Pune, and Ratnagiri.

  • Via Kolhapur:

There are three routes from Kolhapur to this temple, and they are via NH204, via NH204 and Sangola-Mangalwedha-Solapur Road, and via NH48.

  • Via Mumbai:

There are two routes from Mumbai to this temple, and they are via Phule Nagar-Akluj Road and via Bangalore-Mumbai Highway/Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway.

  • Via Pune:

There are three routes from Pune to this temple, and they are via Pune-Solapur Road/Solapur Pune Highway, via Phule Nagar-Akluj Road, and via Beed-Ahmednagar-Pune Road/Kopargaon-Shirdi-Ahmednagar-Pune Highway and Beed-Ahmednagar Pune Road.

  • Via Ratnagiri:

There are two routes from Ratnagiri to this temple, and they are via Umbraj-Chiplun Road and via NH166.

3. By air:

The closest airport to this temple is located in Aurangabad. The Chikkalthana Airport is well connected to major cities in the country.

c. Religious significance of the Yogeshwari Devi Temple

The deity worshipped at this temple is an incarnation of Goddess Durga/Parvati. According to a myth, the goddess was born in the Ambajogai town so as to destroy a demon called Dantasura who was creating a lot of havoc in this region. So it was in honour of the goddess annihilating the demon that this temple known as the “Yogeshwari (Amba) Temple” was then constructed in this town called Ambajogai.
